TTF → WOFF
Convert TTF to WOFF
The older web font format, still worth having as a fallback for a handful of legacy browsers.
Nothing is uploaded to a server. The conversion runs locally, using your browser's own JavaScript engine.
WOFF, the original Web Open Font Format, wraps a TTF in gzip compression instead of Brotli. It's smaller than a raw TTF, though not as small as WOFF2, and browsers have supported it since roughly 2012, a couple of years before WOFF2 even existed.
Why convert TTF to WOFF?
Most sites in 2026 don't need WOFF at all. WOFF2 alone already covers well over 97% of traffic. Convert to WOFF specifically if your @font-face rule needs a fallback source for older browsers.
Frequently asked questions
- Is WOFF still necessary?
- Mostly as insurance. If your analytics show close to zero traffic from browsers older than 2016, WOFF2 by itself is usually enough.
- Is TTF to WOFF lossless?
- Yes. Same glyph data, gzip compressed, with web-specific metadata added on top.
